Reflection on Professional Competencies
Being in the Health Promotion program I feel that I have learned a lot about many different aspects of health and health education. Although all of my classes have taught me about the competencies of the Health Education field, there are a few that particularly stand out when it comes to student learning outcomes. Program Planning taught me about a whole different side to health that I never knew existed, the planning of programs that will help better a community. In that class I leaned all about doing a needs assessment, different types of interventions, how to write grant proposals and many more. I never realized how much went into planning a health program and I guess I just always assumed that that wasn't part of being a health professional, I figured that was someone elses job. I also learned how important the community and other people out there are, as resources for planning a program. There are many steps to actually implementing a program and interventions and they are all very important. I think it is very important to have research involved in all of this so you can get an idea of what other people have done and build off of those ideas and make them your own, and also to see what has worked and what has not worked.
